VTS Procedure for Oracle SPARC Systems
General Microsystems, Inc. provides a value added service of testing servers for hardware failures and system faults prior to customers putting GMI sold products into production. Oracle embeds Validation Test Suite (VTS) as tool to test system faults and hardware failures in the Oracle Solaris operating system. This procedure provides a walkthrough on how to initiate the VTS testing process from the Solaris operating system.
Required Tools:
Laptop with Putty SSH, Telnet, and Rlogin Client
Serial Cable
USB to VGA Dongle
Power cords
Connecting to Server
Connect the USB Dongle to the Serial Cable
Connect the Serial Cable RJ45 to the serial port on the back of the server.
Connect the USB end of the dongle to your laptop.
Open the putty client. Select the serial radial button. Press OK button.
You have connected to the server.
Command Line to Run VTS Testing
The system will eventually reach the opening prompt
Oracle-(serial number) login: root
Password: changeme
You have now entered the ILOM SP
The new prompt should show Hostname:OracleSP-(serial number)

You will need to configure the OS before being able to start the VTS testing. Enter the following commands to start the server and boot the systems operating system:
The system boots.
Prompt: [OK]: boot
The server will begin to booting to the operating system. You will enter the System Configuration Tool to configure the OS.

Computer Name: Use the SO# of the order and assign the server qty.1 in the case that there are multiple servers to the order. 9301-1, 9301-2

Starting VTS in the terminal user interface
Use the directional arrows on your keyboard to navigate throughout the terminal and set options. The screen may be distorted. Press Ctrl L to make the screen more visible.
Navigate the cursor to Global Options and press enter to open the field. Set the parameters:
Duration of testing:1440 minutes (24 hours)
Change disabled to enable by highlighting disable and pressing enter. Select enabled setting and press enter.
Duration of Logging: 1440 minutes (24hours)
Arrow down to apply and press enter.
Press tab key to move curser lower fields of interface select the hardware you want to test.
Pressing the spacebar will either enter and x in the filed or delete the x for the options you want to test.
Select memory, disk, and processor. Remove selections for network and IO ports.
Press the tab Key. Highlight start option and press enter.
VTS will begin testing the server for 24 hours.
